Jacobi's painting "Jesters at the court of Empress Anna Ioannovna" immerses the viewer in the atmosphere of the court of Empress Anna Ioannovna (1693-1740). Her favorite entertainment was the games and fights of jesters, among whom there were also disgraced titled persons. For the amusement of the Empress, her favorite E.-I. Biron and all the courtiers, who had gathered in the bedroom of the Winter Palace, started the games of princes M.A. Golitsyn and N.F. Volkonsky, Count A.M. Apraksin, jesters Pedrilo and Lacoste. To the side by a pole with parrots is the poet V.K. Trediakovsky, waiting in line to read a new ode.
The themes of "buffoonery" and vicissitudes of fate continue in the decor of the frame: its corners are decorated with ribbons with bells intertwined with laurel branches.
